Nightswimming

"Nightswimming", a drawing titled after an R.E.M. song. This was created 2am Thursday morning when I could not sleep and had a terrible R.E.M. craving.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

David Ford

An incredible part of my inspiration comes from music. My father was a music lecturer and organist all his life and therefore I guess music is embedded in my roots. There is nothing that can put me in the right frame of mind for a certain piece like the right music.

I also spend a lot of time surfing for new music and trying to find artists I can connect with. David Ford was certainly one of my biggest discoveries yet. David, a British singer/ song writer, is unique in so many aspects. Not only does he play all the instruments and does his own recording, but he is also is one of the most honest and authentic musicians I ever heard. Friday night TJ and I were fortunate to catch him live in Covington Kentucky (together with Ingrid Michaelson). What an experience...

More about David Ford. Or if you’d like to watch some of his videos click here and follow the ‘play new single’ link.

Currently I am working hard on giving my website a big overall. I have also worked on some photographs of the studio shoot I did with Tantilla & Diablo a few weeks ago. Below I share one of the images we created (If I am not mistaken, we may have listened to David Ford while doing this shoot :-)

Sleep come find me

The sun comes up but does not shine

Radio is on but there is no sound
I put coffee to my mouth but it has no taste
Blanket over my shoulders, but still no warmth

Over by a window to search for hope
A sign of light, a sign of life
I throw the curtains open and hold my breath
only to find large clouds hastily close

I see shadows growing tall and gray
before they’re swallowed by the night
I leave the window cold and dark
No sign of light, no sign of life

I find a corner to comfort me
and fold myself down into a ball
May sleep come quick to find me
To ease my heart and soothe my soul

Turmoil

About two years ago I created a piece titled Turmoil that Pamela Franks, Art Curator at Yale selected for Indiana University East’s annual juried exhibition. I have always felt that this should become a series and recently when inspiration came, I could not put this off any longer. I worked on these constantly for the last two days and now looking back, I don’t think I could have created anything to reflect my current mood better. These are of Gaea, a great model from Dayton, OH.
